I'm an artist in glass with more then 20 years of experience. My love for art is born from my childhood, inculcated by my studies and my family environment. As a child I studied painting and practiced classical ballet for 12 years. I was passionate about sports: rhythmic gymnastics, tennis and fencing, in which I won important prizes in my country. My mother cultivated orchids (the national flower of my Venezuela) and this also instilled in me a love for nature, for beauty and for life in its most subtle expressions.
My great inspiration has always been the body of the human and the blue colors of the sea. This has direct repercussions on my works: the waves of the sea, the caresses of the wind and the intensity of the sunlight. Light is very important in my work. For this reason, I chose glass as a working element because it allows the light to shine, and according to the colours used, it reflects the color palette that emerges untouchable and virtual. I have looked for colour in all its expansion as an expressive element, both in my watercolours on the glass and in the reflection of the light that emanates from my works. I think that the reflection of the artist are his works, whether spontaneous or studied. I have received many invitations from private, public, educational, cultural and business institutions from Curaçao, Aruba, Dominican Republic, Panama, Venezuela and the United States. As well as the hotels, (Hyatt, first; then Radisson, Occidental, Marriott, etc.) for which I have developed beautiful products with the satisfaction of their clients in mind. I look for the spontaneity of the movement. Perhaps, I am rather gesturalistic. I work directly on the glass without sketches, without anything preconceived. If I make a sketch it is only to retain the spark of the idea but, in the end, everything has to be spontaneous and gestural. I like the joy, and in the intimacy of my home, I have always created an atmosphere of joy around me. I value the human spirit: spontaneous and sincere." Miryam Monasterios |
